Quick update

Nagaland Police has opened online applications for 1,137 Constable (GD) posts, filled through an open rally in every district. Only candidates from indigenous Naga tribes of Nagaland can apply. The last date is 30 November 2026.

If you belong to an indigenous Naga tribe, have passed Class 8 (Class 6 if you are from a backward tribe) and are between 18 and 37, this is one of the bigger police openings in the state this year. The form is online only, the fee is Rs 300, and the window closes on 30 November 2026.

Below you will find the dates, the post split, the physical standards, the marking scheme for each stage and the steps to apply. Everything here comes from the Director General of Police’s advertisement dated 19 October 2026, which we read in full.

Should you apply?

This recruitment is narrow by design, so check this before you spend the fee.

  • You can apply if you are from any indigenous Naga tribe of Nagaland and hold a valid Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate.
  • You can apply if you are 18 to 37 years old on the date of the advertisement and meet the height and chest standards below.
  • You can apply if you are one of the constables whose appointment the Gauhati High Court set aside, or a petitioner in those cases. You also get age relaxation.
  • You cannot apply if you are not from an indigenous Naga tribe, however long you have lived in Nagaland.

Non-Indigenous Tribes applicants shall not be eligible.Nagaland Police advertisement, 19 October 2026

One more thing: you can apply for only one district, and every test (physical, written and interview) happens in that district. Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland count as one district for this round.

Vacancy details

The 1,137 posts come from two sources. Most of them (1,053) are being filled again after the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, ordered earlier appointments to be set aside. The other 84 are backlog posts left unfilled in Recruitment-2025, and those are open only to certain tribes in certain districts.

Type of post Male Female Total
Constable (GD), court-ordered posts 848 205 1,053
Constable (GD), backlog posts 82 2 84
Total 930 207 1,137

Posts are shared out by tribal ratio based on the 2011 Census. The district and tribe-wise list sits in Annexures I, II and III of the advertisement, so open the PDF and find your own district’s number before you apply. The backlog posts cover Mokokchung, the Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland group and Tseminyu only.

Pay is Level 3, in the pay band Rs 5,200-20,200 with grade pay Rs 1,800. New recruits are first posted to the IR Battalions and can be sent to serve outside Nagaland.

Eligibility and physical standards

Education

  • Backward tribes: Class 6 pass or higher.
  • Other Naga tribes: Class 8 pass or higher from NBSE or any recognised board.

Height and chest

Standard Male Female
Height 5 feet 3 inches 5 feet
Chest (normal / expanded) 31 / 33 inches 29 / 31 inches

Medical rules are strict

Colour blindness, flat feet, knock knees, varicose veins, squint and hearing loss all disqualify you, even after you clear the written test. There is also a drug and alcohol screening. If you know you have one of these conditions, think twice before paying the fee.

Selection process

The total is 100 marks: 45 for the physical efficiency test, 40 for the written test, 10 for the interview and up to 5 for an NCC certificate (C = 5, B = 3, A = 2).

  1. Physical and medical standardsHeight, chest and medical checks. This stage only screens you in or out; it carries no marks.
  2. Physical efficiency test (45 marks)A 3 km run for men (best band within 10 min 30 sec) or 2 km for women (within 10 min), plus pull-ups, high jump and long jump. Missing the minimum in any event ends your attempt.
  3. Written test (40 marks)80 MCQs in 2 hours, English only. Topics include general knowledge, elementary maths, Indian polity and history, and Naga culture and tribes. Ten candidates per vacancy are called, based on PET marks.
  4. Interview (10 marks)Three candidates per post are called on combined PET and written marks.
  5. Merit listFinal merit is drawn district, tribe and gender-wise. The result itself counts as the offer letter.

Our take: the run carries 20 of the 45 PET marks, so start timing your 3 km or 2 km now. Pull-ups are where many candidates drop out; men need at least 6, women at least 3.
